This page is about Georgia (the country in the Caucasus, not the U.S. state). Since 1 March 2018 every vehicle registered abroad must carry Georgian compulsory third-party liability insurance for the whole stay. Green Card is not valid in Georgia, and neither is any foreign motor policy. A passenger car policy costs from 60 GEL for 15 days and can be bought online before you reach the border.
The owner or driver of a foreign-registered car, motorcycle, bus, truck, trailer or special vehicle must insure civil liability on entry. Driving without the policy is an administrative offence with a fine of 100–200 GEL, and the uninsured driver pays all damage caused to others out of pocket. Limits are fixed by law and identical at every seller: 30,000 GEL per victim and 300,000 GEL per event for injury or death, 25,000 GEL per victim and 50,000 GEL per event for property damage. Terms are 15, 30, 90 days or one year. Passenger car: 60 GEL / 15 days, 100 GEL / 30 days, 180 GEL / 90 days, 395 GEL / year. Motorcycle from 40 GEL, truck from 120 GEL, trailer from 28 GEL (a trailer needs its own policy). The price includes the policy and our service; there are no extra fees at the border.
You enter the plate number, VIN, make and model, the policyholder's passport details and choose the start date. Payment by any bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay; the policy PDF arrives by e-mail, usually within 59 minutes during working hours (Mon–Sat, 10:00–19:00 Tbilisi time). The policy is electronic and is checked by plate number at the border and on the road, so no printout is needed. Yes, there are sales offices at the border crossings, but they have their own queues. Buying online takes a few minutes and the policy is already in the database by the time you reach the checkpoint.

Yes, the policy can be issued online at any time and starts on the date you choose, including today. It does not work retroactively, so the sooner the better.
